UWC: John Dodson vs. Pat Runez Promo Video

Another Great Fight Weekend!

Last night was another great fight night. Many of us were torn between watching Mayweather vs. Marquez or UFC 103. If you have the final resources and two side by side TVs with pay per view access, then you had no problems! Anyways to summarize this weekends events, Mayweather out boxed Marquez who moved up in weight to fight Mayweather. Under contractual agreements, both fighters were obligated to weigh no more than 144lbs for their 147lb fight at the weigh-ins. Mayweather showed up weighing 146, while Marquez was weighed in at 142lbs. Mayweathers two extra pounds cost him a hefty $600,000. I guess 600 large is nothing if you're Mayweather who is "Flashy and getting money"!

Meanwhile in the land of MMA Vitor Belfort roughed up Rich Franklin, Paul Daley left Martin Kampmann sleeping on his feet, and Drew Mcfredries was submitted by Tomasz Drwal who was making his UFC debut. Belfort stated he's ready to face anyone who steps in the ring with him, and can possibly face Anderson Silva at middleweight.

Rogers to face fedor 7.Nov on CBS

September 17, 2009

MMA RETURNS TO PRIMETIME ON CBS WITH
“STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS”
LIVE ON SATURDAY, NOV. 7

Fedor, the #1 Ranked MMA Heavyweight in the World, To Be Seen for the First Time by Broadcast Television Audience

The CBS Television Network will return to the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage with STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS, to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 7 (9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT).  SHOWTIME Sports® will produce the four-fight event with host Gus Johnson calling the action and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo serving as color analysts.

In 2008, CBS aired the first live MMA fights on network television, with three successful events earning time period-winning ratings in all key young adult and young men demographics.  CBS’s most recent broadcast in October 2008 ranked as the night's highest-rated program on both broadcast and cable in adults 18-34 and men 18-34, topping all other sports programming in those demographics, including the Major League Baseball playoffs and college football.

On Nov. 7, the world’s Number One-ranked MMA heavyweight fighter, Fedor Emelianenko of Russia, will face undefeated American Brett Rogers of Minnesota in the marquee match up. The fight marks the first bout for the highly coveted Emelianenko since his promotional company M-1 Global signed an agreement with STRIKEFORCE to co-promote major events.

"There's no question this is a sport that is fast becoming a force in popularity and as a business," said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, Prime Time, CBS Television.  "We're excited to be the platform that will enable millions more to see the athlete regarded as the very best in his sport.  The Number One heavyweight on the most-watched network has a very nice ring to it."

Simply referred to as "Fedor" by fans around the world, the 6-foot, 235-pound Russian is one of the most dominant fighters in the sport.  He is a master of the Russian military combat system Sambo and boasts a record of 30 wins, one loss, no draws with 16 wins by submission, seven knockouts and seven decisions.  The 28-year-old Rogers (10-0) is a massive physical specimen standing 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 265 pounds.  He possesses two of the heaviest hands in the sport of MMA, an attribute that has helped him knock out all 10 of his professional opponents.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to bring the STRIKEFORCE brand to CBS," said Scott Coker, Founder and CEO of STRIKEFORCE.  "We are looking forward to bringing MMA back to the network and to having the world’s No. 1 heavyweight—Fedor—compete for the first time on live network television against one of America's most promising young, undefeated stars—Brett Rogers."

STRIKEFORCE has experienced significant growth since it launched its first MMA promotion on March 10, 2006.  After signing a landmark deal to air live events on SHOWTIME® earlier this year, STRIKEFORCE earned the premium network its highest MMA rating ever on August 15 with Carano vs. Cyborg.  Shortly before the live telecast, the main event principals—Gina Carano and Cris “Cyborg” Santos—were the most searched terms on Yahoo! and Google, while the fight was the most discussed subject on Twitter.

Zak Cummings replaces Eangelista Cyborg on 25 September

Undefeated Zak Cummings Replaces Injured Evangelista Cyborg
In STRIKEFORCE Challengers Main Event Fight With Tim Kennedy
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, On Friday, September 25

______________________________________________________________________

NEW YORK (August 20, 2009)—Undefeated rising mixed martial arts (MMA) star Zak Cummings (10-0) will replace an injured Evangelista Cyborg in the STRIKEFORCE Challengers main event matchup with American military hero Tim Kennedy (10-2) at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s SpiritBank Event Center on Friday, September 25.

“Tim Kennedy sounds like a pretty tough guy and that’s the way I like to fight so it should be a great fight,” said the 25-year-old Cummings, a two-time national junior collegiate qualifier in wrestling for St. Louis Community College – Meramec.

A knee injury forced Cummings to withdraw before the start of the 2006 national tournament and, later, convinced him to return home to Springfield, Missouri where he discovered MMA. He has since regained his health and become well-skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing.

Despite his newfound versatility, Cummings credits his untainted success first and foremost to his consistent composure in the cage.

“Some guys get very emotional and some guys want to go out there and hurt people. I’m one of those guys that looks at MMA as a sport and a chess match, just like I look at wrestling,” he explained. “In all my wrestling experiences, I stayed calm throughout any situation that happened. I didn’t get frustrated and I think that’s carried over into my experience in this sport. I keep my cool really well and it’s paid off.”

The 29-year-old Kennedy’s return to action will be his first since he dominated Nick “The Goat” Thompson, stopping Thompson on the ground with an onslaught of punches in the second round (2:37) of their STRIKEFORCE Challengers meeting at ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington.

After spending six years in The United States Army, the last three as a sniper in the Seventh Special Forces Group, Kennedy, a native of San Luis Obispo, California, recently accepted an offer to serve in the Texas National Guard. The career change will allow him the flexibility he needs to pursue his MMA career at a world-class level.

“I don’t think anybody can really plan to see what I’m coming in to do this time,” said Kennedy. “I’m working with the best boxing coaches and training with Mark DeLaGrotte, one of the best MMA striking coaches in the world, so I think that people are going to see a new Tim that they’ve never seen before.”

A graduate of Columbia College in Missouri, Kennedy launched his professional MMA career shortly before enlisting in the military near the end of 2001.

“After 9/11 happened, I wanted to do something for my country,” he explained. “The military is my life. I am going to serve as long as they’ll let me. I’d love to retire in uniform.”

A knee injury Cyborg sustained during a training session last week forced the Brazilian fighter to pull out of the bout with Kennedy.

UWC Flyweight Championship Title

By John Porter

Flyweights John "The Magician" Dodson and Pat Runez will go head to head for the vacant UWC Flyweight championship belt. Dodson enters the fight with an 8-4 record with his last two victories against Jose Villarisco and Jose Lujan. Dodson lost a close decision to current UWC bantamweight champion Mike "The Hulk" Easton at UWC: Confrontation last October. Runez most recently fought in the Palace Fighting Championship promotion and boast an undefeated record. The event will be the co-main event of the evening. World ranked bantamweights Mike Easton, and Chase Beebe will be the main event as Mike Easton looks to defend his UWC bantamweight title.
